In today’s world, it has never been more important to be informed on how to better protect yourself against identity theft and fraud. TPNB Bank takes your privacy seriously and we want to provide you with the essential information, so you don’t become the next victim.

Identity Theft

Identity theft is the fraudulent acquisition and use of a person’s personal identifying information, usually for financial gain.

Personal identifying information includes but is not limited to the following:
  • Name and address
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Credit card or bank account numbers
  • Medical insurance account numbers

Ways to Protect Your Personal Information:

  • Do not give out confidential information over the phone, via e-mail or in text messages.
  • Remember the bank will not email or call you requesting your personal confidential information, we already have it.
  • Protect your account numbers, and your social security or tax identification numbers and use caution when revealing any personal information publicly.
  • PIN numbers should be memorized, and your passwords should be changed on a regular basis.
  • Be careful what you throw away, making sure to shred or destroy any items containing your personal information.
  • Monitor all your bank and credit card transactions for unauthorized use. Criminals typically start off with smaller amounts to see if you will notice.
  • Review your credit report, at least every 12 months to make sure all reported information is accurate.
  • Do not store your card numbers, account numbers or other personal information on your cell phone or computer.

Email Fraud

Phishing is a growing type of fraud, which is the attempt to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, account and card details, often for malicious reasons, by impersonating as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.

Things to Keep in Mind:

  • Legitimate businesses do not ask you to send your confidential information through unsecure channels.
  • Do not reply to an email or text messages asking for your personal or financial information.
  • If you are suspicious of an email from a business do not open until you have confirmed that it is legitimate.
